AFRICA’S WILDLIFE, WONDERS & THE OCCASIONAL QUESTIONABLE ROAD

So… who the hell are Danie & Ali? 🐗

Well, they’re both well into their 60’s, which, according to society, means they should probably be taking up gentle hobbies like gardening.

Instead, they bought old vehicles, drive them into the wilderness, go looking for birds and wildlife, sleep in the bush, explore places that Google Maps seems to have forgotten about… and occasionally wonder why their knees hurt. 😂

Danie is the one who looks at a dodgy road and says: “I think we can get through there.”

Ali is the one who says: “You said that last time.” And then gets in anyway.

Together, they are the slightly mad humans behind VLAKVARK FLING — a celebration of getting out there, getting dusty, seeing something amazing and not taking yourself too seriously.

There’s Vlakvark Mama, their 22-year-old Mercedes Atego overland truck.

There’s Vlakvark Piglet, their equally long-in-the-tooth Land Rover Defender.

There’s birding. There’s wildlife. There’s camping. There’s exploring. There’s an unhealthy fascination with finding places that aren’t on the tourist trail.

And there are a LOT of stories that probably shouldn’t be told on Facebook. 😜

Somewhere along the way, they decided that the humble warthog was the perfect mascot. Because let’s face it…

Warthogs don’t care if they’re elegant. They don’t care if the road is pretty. They don’t care what anyone thinks. They just get on with it.

So that’s VLAKVARK FLING.

Two old farts.
Two old vehicles.
One ridiculous amount of enthusiasm.
And absolutely no intention of growing up.

Welcome along for the fling. 🐗💨
